Nutritions and Nutrients

Newman (2020) defined that “nutrition is the study of nutrients in food, how the body uses them and the relationship between diet, health and disease”. In general, Nutrition is the science that interprets the nutrients and other substances in food in relation to maintenance, growth, reproduction, health, and disease of an organism. It includes ingestion, absorption, assimilation, biosynthesis, catabolism, and excretion.

There are 3 basic elements of good nutrition:

  • Proteins

  • Carbs

  • Non-Saturated Fats

"Nutrition also focuses on how people can use dietary choices to reduce the risk of disease, what happens if a person has too much or too little of a nutrient, and how allergies work” (Newman, 2020).

Macronutrients consist of :

  • Carbohydrates

  • Fats

  • Dietary fibre

  • Minerals

  • Proteins

  • Vitamins

  • Water

Micronutrients consist of :

  • Water-soluble vitamins

  • Fat-soluble vitamins

  • Microminerals

  • Trace minerals

To sum up, nutrition is the study of how food affects our body. “Individuals need to consume a varied diet to obtain a wide range of nutrients” (Newman, 2020). Newman (2020) stated that “Some people choose to follow a specific diet, in which they focus on certain foods and avoid others. People who do this may need to plan carefully to ensure they obtain all the necessary vitamins to maintain their health”.

An eating routine that is wealthy in plant-based diet and that cut off points included creature fats, handled food sources, and included sugar and salt is well on the way to profit an individual's wellbeing.
