Even in our contemporary life, good hygiene practices still be
the utmost disease – prevention strategy.
Cleaning Around the Home
It is important to clean and disinfecting the house as a precaution. Focus on the
high – touch surfaces of the house. This move will be one in lowering the risk
of infection. High – touch surfaces mean the surfaces that are frequently
touched daily, including door handles, tables, chairs, handrails, kitchen and
bathrooms.

It is important to clean before disinfecting, do clean with soap or detergent and
water for dirty surfaces. Once cleaning completed, disinfect the surface with
products containing alcohol around 70% or those products with bleach.
For the disinfecting method to be effective, the products need to stay on wet
surface for several minutes. However, it is highly recommended to read the
directions when using the products to avoid any damage on things also ensuring
effectiveness.
Cleaning Clothes
It is important to take care of a good clean of our clothes as we are still
unsure of the how long the virus can survive on fabric.
Practice caution in keeping clothes clean not only from dirt but also the
bacteria. Also, in keeping clothes clean, do have hygiene common sense such
as removing shoes before entering the house, washing hands with soap once
returning home from crowded places.

Laundry at home, do clean bed sheets, towels and clothes regularly.
• Avoid shaking the laundry to reduce spreading the virus through the air.
• Practice using soap and detergent with suitable warm water and dry
the clothes completely as an approach to kill virus.
• Do wash and disinfect laundry bags and cases too. However, it is
better to start considering usage of laundry disposable bags.
Doing laundry facilities outside.
• Always minimize the time you spent doing laundry outside by preparing the
laundry at home.
• Do your laundry when there are few people and maintain physical distancing.
• Practice wearing disposable gloves, washing hands immediately afterwards
and sanitizing hands frequently.
• Avoid waiting in the laundry room for your laundry to finish washing and always
fold your clothes at home.
Handling and Preparing Food

Food Packaging
It is risky for virus transmission to the food packaging while food shopping or
receiving food delivery. Thus, it is important to remove unnecessary packages,
take-out containers and shift the food to clean plates from home. Do make sure
to dispose the packages and take – out containers in a dustbin with lid. As for
unpackaged food, like fruits and vegetables, wash them thoroughly under
running water before consuming.
Cooking
First and foremost, it is important to wash hands with soap and water for at
least 20 seconds before preparing food and always use clean utensils and
plates. Try following cooking rules such as separating chopping boards to
prepare uncooked meat and fish and cook food with the recommended
temperature. In the other hand, keep fragile food refrigerated and always pay
attention to product expiry dates.
